Jacksonville Armada Forced to Shift Home Game After Venue Change
Updated June 8, 2025
Jacksonville Armada fans experienced a last-minute surprise as the team announced a change of venue for Saturday’s match.Instead of heading to Edward Waters University, supporters rerouted to Patton Park on Hodge Boulevard. The Jacksonville Armada, a key part of the city’s sports scene, had its plans disrupted due to a temporary suspension of their agreement with EWU.
EWU cited a “facilities management challenge” as the reason for the abrupt cancellation. The Jacksonville Armada posted the news, leaving fans scrambling. Despite the change, the Armada faithful showed up to support their team.
Sebastian Cardona, president of Section 904, the Armada’s official fan group, noted the team has played at eight different fields over the years.”We started before the team even had a name,” Cardona said. “We’ve been there since Day 0.” He added that the lack of a dedicated stadium forces the team to rely on option arrangements.
While Cardona had grown accustomed to EWU as the home field, that arrangement ended suddenly. Other fans, like Josh Richburg, remained positive. “We’re going to be out hear supporting them no matter what,” Richburg said. “We like the location out here just as much as the location over there.” Dennis Sciarratta, whose granddaughter plays for the team, echoed the sentiment, saying the change was “not a big deal.”
The Jacksonville Armada held a groundbreaking ceremony in January for a new stadium on A Philip Randolph Boulevard. However, the completion date has been pushed back from July to next March. Cardona expressed frustration, stating, “It’s just kind of annoying that in the year we should be playing in our own stadium downtown, we still have to deal with the biggest issue the team has had since we started, which is that we don’t have our own stadium.”
EWU hopes to resolve the issue in time to host the Armada’s remaining four home games of the regular season, starting next Saturday.
What’s next
The Jacksonville Armada continues its season, hoping for a swift resolution with EWU and looking forward to the completion of their downtown stadium in March.
