Jacksonville police have made the first arrest in connection with a burglary at Edwards Grocery and a resulting high-speed chase that occurred last month.

Marcus Dewayne Evans, 24, of Bessemer, was arrested on Monday, April 20, 2026, according to Jacksonville Police Chief Marcus Wood. Evans is charged with third-degree burglary and fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement.

The arrest was made with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force. Police Chief Wood stated that Evans is believed to be the first of three suspects involved in the incident, and investigators are continuing to pursue the remaining individuals.
