Jogja-Netpac Asian Film Festival Market Returns to Boost Indonesian Cinema

the Jogja-Netpac Asian Film Festival (JAFF) is preparing to host the second JAFF Market at the Jogja Expo Center in Yogyakarta. This industry platform follows a prosperous inaugural event in 2024, which drew thousands of participants and facilitated numerous business deals.
Ifa Isfansyah, festival director of JAFF, emphasized the market’s role in supporting Asian independent cinema. “JAFF Market was born from JAFF’s long-standing commitment to champion Asian independent cinema,” Isfansyah said.”We now expand that vision by building an industry-facing space designed to meet today’s demands – one that helps Indonesian stories thrive and compete globally.”
The 2025 edition will maintain six core programs, including JAFF Future project for project incubation, Content Market for IP showcase, and Talent Day for mentorship.The Film & Market Conference will again partner with APROFI (Indonesian Film Producers Association).
Vice Minister of Culture Giring Ganesha highlighted the government’s support for JAFF Market. “The government sees JAFF Market as a key partner in driving sustainable growth within the film industry,” Ganesha said.
Despite growing interest, Indonesian cinema faces structural challenges, including a limited number of screens nationwide. Linda Gozali, market director of JAFF Market, aims to address these issues. “Our goal is to position JAFF Market as a catalyst for growth across the national film ecosystem,” Gozali said.
JAFF Market 2024 alumni have already seen global success,with projects selected for prestigious events like HAF Goes to Cannes at Marché du Film 2025.
What’s next
JAFF Market 2025, sponsored by Amar Bank, will take place Nov. 29-Dec. 1, preceding the full JAFF festival running Nov. 29-Dec. 6. Submissions are open July 15-Sept. 10 for most programs, with Content Market submissions closing Aug. 15.
