Jägermeister, the iconic herbal liqueur, has once again pushed the envelope of what drinkers can expect from a beloved brand. In 2024, Jagermeister launched its new product, Jägermeister Orange, which has already been successfully tested in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The company now plans to expand its availability to include Germany, Austria, Global Travel Retail, Croatia, Hungary, Slovenia, and Norway. In fact, Jägermeister Orange will soon be available in select U.S. markets as well, catering to the growing demand for innovative, flavorful beverages.
“To a large extent, the Austrian market consists of long-term Jägermeister fans who appreciate the characteristic Jagermeister quality. With Jägermeister Orange, we would like to inspire existing fans with new taste experiences as well as address potential new target groups that prefer fruity-fresh shots”
– Sophie Zorn, Brand Manager at Liquid Spirits for Jägermeister Austria
The introduction of Jägermeister Orange reflects a strategic move to tap into the growing global trend of flavored spirits. The herbal liqueur market, historically dominated by traditional recipes, is now seeing a surge in demand for innovative and fruity flavors. James DeRuvo, a leading spirits analyst, notes, “Products like Jägermeister Orange capitalize on the flavor-driven consumer trends, offering a fresh twist to a classic brand.” This aligns perfectly with the shifting tastes of the American market, which has a strong preference for citrus and herbal notes in alcoholic beverages.
Sustainable and High-Quality Production
The new variety is crafted from 100 percent natural ingredients with an alcohol content of 33 percent by volume. The essential oils are extracted from the shells of oranges and mandarins sourced from a selected region of Sicily. This ensures that the fruity, refreshing taste is prominent, according to Berndt Finke, Vice President of Products & Quality at Mast-Jägermeister SE, who emphasized the company’s commitment to high-quality production and natural ingredients.
The Art of Blending
Jägermeister Orange builds upon the original herb-liqueur, a blend of 56 herbs, flowers, roots, and fruits. The botanicals are extracted in a maceration process, producing a base that matures in wooden barrels for a year. For the new flavor, this base is infused with a citrus oil extract, which gives it a fresh, fruity note.
“The essence of herbal and citrus flavors creates a perfect harmony, making it a delightful choice for contemporary cocktail enthusiasts,” explains Finke. This expert blending approach ensures that Jägermeister Orange retains the traditional properties communicating with discerning drinkers and new consumers simultaneously.
Innovative Market Approach
Globally, Jägermeister Orange will compete in key markets like Germany and Austria as well as Slovenia, Croatia and Hungary, where Jägermeister consumers are accustomed to long established tastes and non-alcoholic beverages are largely prevalent.
Això suggests a potential for expansion into the North American sphere, while acknowledging nuances and particularities. Ung Nils Jenssen, a renowned spirits mark forecaster and executive consultant at Beverage Dynamics Inc, suggests, “Jägermeister Orange not only offers seasoned aficionados a unique experience, but also succinctly branching out to the younger demographics who favor modern, citrus-infused beverages.”
Distribution and Scaling
Moreover, the new product will hit the local market. Jägermeister Orange is available in a mini-master format and the more classic 0.7-liter bottle, providing ample options for consumers. The future expansion plans to introduce Jägermeister Orange on global consumer platforms, while the possibilities for United States markets continue to be evaluated critically.
