Jaguar is preparing to launch its new electric grand tourer, the Type 01, introducing a minimalist interior design featuring haptic steering wheel buttons and a ClearSight Rear View Display. Auto Express reported that the ultra-luxurious model has already been driven by its test team ahead of the formal rollout. The vehicle arrives following a controversial corporate rebrand that initially drew negative public attention.
Interior Specifications and Technology of the Type 01
The cabin of the Type 01 replaces traditional rear benches with individual comfort-focused chairs and incorporates a full-length panoramic roof that floods the interior with natural light, according to Auto Express. The vehicle’s minimalist steering wheel includes haptic buttons on both sides of a central hub featuring Jaguar’s new logo, matched with grained trim on the top of the dash and the lower section of the wheel. Angular wiper and indicator stalks flank the steering column. A camera mounted on the roof feeds a small display hidden at the base of the windscreen, serving as a rear-view mirror in lieu of a conventional rear windscreen. The lengthy wheelbase aims to provide generous legroom across all seating positions, while the central tunnel is expected to house hidden storage compartments and device charging ports.
Lennard Hoornik Describes Type 01 as Innovative
JLR chief commercial officer Lennard Hoornik addressed the upcoming launch during the firm’s 2026 Investor Day, stating that initial negative reactions to the company’s rebrand had turned around into a positive outcome. Hoornik described the vehicle by saying, It’s really, really fantastic what [Type 01] can do.
He also characterized Jaguar as an engineering marvel with an unwavering focus on making the Type 01 the most innovative car ever produced by the company.
Mark Ritson Analyzes Jaguar Target Demographic
Mark Ritson examined Jaguar’s upcoming release on The Drum, noting that the vehicle must answer seven core questions regarding its target demographic, revitalization strategy, distinctive brand assets, and British differentiation. Ritson pointed out that Jaguar’s 2024 strategy aimed at a young, design-minded, cash-rich segment of buyers willing to spend substantial sums on a four-door luxury vehicle over established competitors like Porsche, Mercedes, or Tesla. Ritson’s analysis questions how many traditional brand codes remain on the Type 01 after the company discarded much of its previous visual identity in favor of a new wordmark.
Type 01 Moves to Commercial Release
The Type 01 launch marks a critical test for JLR’s new commercial direction following two years of manufacturing development. Mark Ritson stated on The Drum that his detailed verdict and evaluation of the vehicle’s answers to the market will be published immediately following the launch event. Auto Express noted that the 986bhp electric grand tourer gives industry observers a clear picture of what to expect from the ultra-luxurious model as it transitions from prototype testing to commercial release.
