Jaguars expect Travis Hunter to start at cornerback on Sunday

Travis Hunter Set for Role

Hunter is expected to start at cornerback for Sunday’s game, a position where he practiced extensively during the latter weeks of training camp.

Defensive Integration and Timing

Defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile addressed the media regarding Hunter’s defensive workload, calling the extra reps a great thing for building timing and cohesion within the unit.

Having him with us a little bit more, that’s been good for all that, Campanile said, pointing to the communication required in meetings and on the field. We really rely on that at every position.

Building Trust on the Field

Hunter echoed those sentiments, emphasizing that the additional defensive reps help establish trust with his teammates.

It just helped a lot being able to be comfortable when I’m on the field with the guys, let them know that they can trust me, Hunter said. I’m going to be able to do my job. I’m going to be in the right spot when I need to be.

The standout emphasized his eagerness to contribute on the field after missing time on the sidelines.

Everybody knows I can’t sit on the sideline, Hunter said. I don’t like sitting on the sideline.

Injury Reports and Roster Updates

As the Jaguars prepare for Week 1, the team’s official injury report lists several key contributors working through limitations. Right tackle Cole Van Lanen was listed as limited on Thursday due to a knee injury, with Head Coach Liam Coen indicating earlier in the week that Van Lanen will likely be a game-time decision.

Running back LeQuint Allen Jr. returned to a limited designation on Thursday after missing Wednesday’s practice with a hip injury. Meanwhile, wide receiver Jakobi Meyers was listed as limited for the second consecutive day Thursday with a hip issue, though Meyers stated earlier in the week that he expects to play Sunday.
