Shajahan Khan Ordered to Prison After Two Days of Remand
Awami League presidium member and former shipping minister Shajahan Khan, who was remanded for seven days in the case of the killing of a youth named Abdul Motaleb (14) in the Dhanmondi police station area of the capital during the anti-discrimination movement students, has been ordered to be sent to prison after two days.
During the seven-day remand on Sunday (September 8), Shajahan Khan fell ill, prompting the investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Khokon Mia of Dhanmondi Model Police Station, to request that he be brought to court and kept in the prison.
On behalf of Shajahan Khan, his lawyer Shri Prananath applied for bail. After the hearing, the Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka denied Ali Haider bail and ordered him to be sent to prison.
On September 6, the court granted Shajahan Khan a seven-day remand. Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police arrested him from a house in Dhanmondi in the middle of September 5.
Case Details
According to the complaint, Sheikh Hasina, along with other defendants, directed the police, RAB, and 14 party leaders to stop the student anti-discrimination movement led by the defendants. As a result of the actions taken by the police and other forces to maintain law and order, leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organizations gathered illegally and indiscriminately, and innocent, unarmed students were shot and physically tortured throughout the country, including Dhaka. Hundreds of students died, and many people were injured.
The complainant’s son, Abdul Motalib (14), was part of the student anti-discrimination movement. On August 4, when the complainant’s son was standing on the paved road on the west side of the Jigatla bus stand in the Dhanmondi police station area with other students and the general crowd, the police, RAB, Awami League, and 14 party leaders fired hundreds of rounds with domestic weapons at the students with the plan and order to kill the accused explosive grenades, tear grenades, cocktails, and fire hand grenades, petrol bombs, rubber bullets. Many unarmed students were injured and killed on the spot. The victim Abdul Motalib (14) was shot in the chest and neck and died on the spot.
The father of the victim Abdul Mateen filed the case in the Dhanmondi Police Station, mentioning the names of 176 people, including the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Moreover, 250/300 unknown people have been accused in the case.
