China and India Discuss Bilateral Relations at G20 Summit
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met during the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro. They discussed recent disengagement in the Ladakh border area and the future steps for improving relations between India and China.
Jaishankar highlighted the progress made on the disengagement agreement, confirming that it is being implemented as planned. He mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping had directed their foreign ministers to meet soon for further discussions.
Wang Yi emphasized the need for “more mutual trust and less suspicion” between the two nations. He also called for enhanced cooperation, including the resumption of direct flights, the exchange of journalists, and easier visa processes.
This discussion follows the military agreement aimed at resolving the standoff at the disputed Himalayan border. Both ministers acknowledged the importance of maintaining dialogue amid global challenges.
