⁣ Updated ‍June 11, 2025

Brussels—External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, during a recent European trip,⁤ stressed that tensions between India adn Pakistan are a global concern due to⁤ terrorism, not⁢ merely a bilateral issue. He emphasized the need for international recognition of the gravity of⁤ terrorism emanating from Pakistan and its implications for global security.

Speaking in Brussels, jaishankar‌ referenced Osama bin Laden’s presence in Abbottabad, a Pakistani military town. He questioned why bin Laden felt safe residing‌ there for years, close to Pakistan’s military academy. This, he said, underscores that the issue transcends India-Pakistan relations and poses a threat ⁤to global security. ⁢The EAM’s remarks underscore ⁢India’s commitment to addressing global ⁢challenges, including terrorism and conflict resolution.

Regarding‌ the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Jaishankar stated India’s belief that war cannot resolve differences.India is focused on a peaceful resolution, without ⁢being prescriptive or judgmental, he said. he also highlighted India’s relationship with ukraine, noting that each country considers its own‌ history and interests.

He questioned the West’s response at the time, suggesting they should reflect on their past actions before lecturing⁢ on international principles. India’s stance reflects its commitment to peace and stability, both regionally and globally.

Discussing India’s role in ⁣the new global order, Jaishankar observed that Europe is ⁢entering an⁣ era of ‌multipolarity, requiring it to make decisions‌ in its own interest.⁢ He emphasized strategic autonomy and the need for Europe to leverage ‌its capabilities and relationships. India ⁣seeks to strengthen its ties with Europe in ⁤this evolving multipolar world.

“I hear terms like ‘strategic autonomy’ being used in Europe — these were once part of our vocabulary,” Jaishankar said.‍ “The EU is a major pole in the global order — and increasingly an autonomous one. that is precisely why I’m here: to deepen our relationship ‍in this multipolar world.”

What’s next
