Jakarta Monorail Demolition Begins on Rasuna Said Street
Jakarta Begins Demolition of long-Abandoned Monorail Project
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung oversaw the start of demolition Wednesday of a stalled monorail project on Jalan HR Rasuna Said in South Jakarta. The governor was joined by former Jakarta Governor Sutiyoso.
Detikcom reporters on the scene observed Anung, wearing a white uniform, accompanied by vice Governor Rano Karno, Jakarta Secretary Uus Kuswanto, Head of the jakarta Transportation Department Syafrin Liputo, Head of the Jakarta Public Works department Heru Suwondo, and other officials. The group inspected the monorail pillars slated for removal.
Heavy machinery, including metal-cutting torches, where positioned at the site. The first monorail pillar was cut at 9:07 AM local time by a Public Works Department crew, with Anung and his team observing the dismantling of the long-abandoned structure.
The monorail project has been stalled for years, becoming a visible symbol of unfinished infrastructure in the city. The demolition marks a step toward clearing the area and possibly making way for new development.
