Jakarta Launches community Group to Combat HIV/AIDS Stigma
Jakarta, Indonesia – In a move to raise awareness and combat stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS, the Jakarta utara government has launched the Warga Peduli AIDS (WPA), a community group dedicated to educating residents about the disease.
The initiative coincides wiht World AIDS Day, observed annually on December 1st, which serves as a crucial reminder of the ongoing fight against HIV/AIDS.
“World AIDS Day is a vital possibility to increase public understanding of HIV/AIDS,” said Dr. Lysbeth Regina pandjaitan, Head of the Jakarta Utara Health Department. “By raising awareness, we can dismantle stigma and discrimination, and strengthen our commitment to tackling HIV/AIDS in Indonesia.”
The WPA will act as a vital extension of the government’s efforts, engaging in community outreach and education programs. Their activities will focus on providing data about HIV/AIDS, encouraging testing, and promoting access to healthcare services for those living with the virus.
“We wont to empower the community to play an active role in the fight against HIV/AIDS,” Dr. Pandjaitan emphasized.
Yenny Nursanti, Chair of the WPA Jakarta utara, highlighted the importance of collaboration in achieving their goals. “We will work closely with all stakeholders to ensure a coordinated and effective response to HIV/AIDS in Jakarta Utara,” she stated.
This year’s World AIDS Day theme,”equal Rights for All,Together We Can,” underscores the need for inclusivity and equity in HIV/AIDS prevention,treatment,and care.
The Jakarta Utara World AIDS Day commemoration featured a range of activities, including HIV testing, the official launch of the WPA, discussions on health and interaction, and the distribution of nutritional supplements and groceries to those in need.
