Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta, Rano Karno, has called on residents to be alert for the potential spread of what’s being called “super flu,” despite no confirmed cases being reported in Indonesia as of January 29, 2024, according to ANTARA. Karno emphasized the importance of preventative measures, describing the illness as a potential “immigrant disease,” meaning one brought in from abroad.
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Goverment plans to increase monitoring of tourists and individuals returning from international travel, a routine activity that will receive heightened attention. this monitoring will take place at airports upon arrival, Karno stated during a visit to the West Jakarta City Government Office on Monday, January 29, 2024.
What is “Super Flu”?
It’s critically important to note that “super flu” is not an official medical term. Public Health Practitioner,dr. Ngabila Salama, clarified that the term is commonly used by the media and the public to describe influenza cases that are more severe, longer-lasting, or more easily transmitted than typical seasonal flu.
Preventative Measures Recommended
Dr. Ngabila Salama outlined several practical steps individuals can take to protect themselves. The first and most highly recommended measure is annual influenza vaccination, especially for families and public workers.
Other preventative actions include wearing a mask when experiencing cold symptoms or in crowded environments, and practicing regular handwashing. maintaining a healthy lifestyle is also crucial,with Dr. Ngabila emphasizing the importance of sufficient sleep, stress management, and a nutritious diet rich in protein, vegetables, and fruits.
