TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Residents of Jakarta and surrounding areas can expect light to moderate rainfall during Chinese New Year celebrations on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, according to Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

From Morning to Midday

The latest forecast, issued at 07:00 PM Western Indonesia Time (WIB) on Monday, predicts rain will fall from morning to midday in parts of North, West, Central, and East Jakarta. Similar conditions are anticipated for Bekasi Regency, Tangerang Regency and City, South Tangerang, Depok, and the entire Bogor area.

From Afternoon to Evening

From late afternoon until 07:00 PM WIB, the rainfall is forecast to spread to South, East, and West Jakarta, as well as South Tangerang, Tangerang City and Regency, Bogor, Depok, and Bekasi City.

Temperature Forecast

Temperatures across the Greater Jakarta area, known as Jabodetabek, are expected to range between 24 and 30 degrees Celsius. Bogor is forecast to be cooler, with temperatures between 20 and 28 degrees Celsius. Winds are expected to blow from the southwest to northwest at speeds of 10 to 40 kilometers per hour, with humidity levels reaching 70 to 98 percent.

The BMKG previously urged residents to remain vigilant amid the potential for increased rainfall and extreme weather between February 15 and 21, 2026. The agency’s analysis indicates a strengthening Asian monsoon, bringing dominant westerly winds that support the formation of convective clouds over western and southern parts of Indonesia.

These conditions are further reinforced by the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO), currently active over the Indian Ocean, as well as Kelvin and Rossby atmospheric waves that contribute to wind convergence, particularly along Java’s southern coast and the Nusa Tenggara region.

“The combination of these factors raises the potential for moderate to heavy rainfall, possibly very heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds in several areas,” Andri Ramdhani, Acting Deputy for Meteorology at BMKG, said in a written statement.

While Jakarta experienced flooding in January 2026, with floodwaters gradually receding as of January 31, 2026, the forecast suggests continued vigilance is needed as the region enters a period of heightened rainfall activity.
