Jakarta Achieves Fourth Consecutive Child-Amiable Province Award

Jakarta has been recognized once again for its commitment to children’s well-being, receiving the Child-Friendly Province (PROVILA) award from the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection for the fourth year in a row. This sustained achievement underscores the city’s dedication to fostering an environment were children can thrive and their rights are protected.
A Collaborative Effort for Child Welfare
The award acknowledges the strong synergy between various stakeholders in Jakarta, all working towards the common goal of fulfilling children’s rights and ensuring their protection. Iin Mutmainnah,Head of the Jakarta Empowerment,Child Protection,and Population Control Office,emphasized this collaborative spirit as the key to the city’s success.
“This award also strengthens the spirit of the Jakarta Provincial Government to continue making Jakarta not only a livable region but also a lovable one, and to become a global, child-friendly, and inclusive city,” Mutmainnah stated.
what Does the PROVILA Award Represent?
The PROVILA award isn’t simply a symbolic gesture. It signifies a province’s demonstrable commitment to creating supportive environments for children’s growth and development. This includes a focus on fulfilling basic children’s rights, providing robust protection mechanisms, and actively listening to and respecting children’s perspectives. the award criteria assess a range of factors, including policy implementation, resource allocation, and the effectiveness of programs designed to benefit children.
National Commitment to child Rights
The 2025 Child-Friendly City/District Award Ceremony, held on August 8th at the Ministry of Religious Affairs office, highlighted the national importance of prioritizing child welfare. Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, arifah Fauzi, stressed that these awards are a vital form of recognition for regional leaders and their teams who are dedicated to creating safe and nurturing environments for children.
Fauzi further emphasized that this commitment is not merely a matter of policy, but a constitutional mandate. The Indonesian state is obligated to uphold all children’s rights, provide comprehensive protection, and respect their voices, in accordance with the principles enshrined in the Convention on the Children’s Rights – a treaty Indonesia has ratified through various laws and regulations.
The Challenge of Building Child-Friendly Cities
Becoming a truly child-friendly city is a complex and ongoing process. Minister Fauzi noted that it requires consistent commitment from local leadership, the development of effective policies, and the implementation of integrated programs specifically designed around children’s rights and protection. This includes addressing issues like access to quality education,healthcare,safe play spaces,and protection from violence and exploitation.
Jakarta’s continued success with the PROVILA award demonstrates its dedication to meeting these challenges and building a brighter future for its youngest citizens.
