Indonesia Prepares for Christmas and New Year Tourism
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana urges industry players and tourism associations to work together for the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays. She emphasizes the need for thorough preparations to ensure tourists have safe, comfortable, and smooth travel experiences.
The ministry expects around 110.67 million people to travel during the holiday season. Wardhana highlights this as a crucial opportunity for the tourism sector. She calls on all businesses to ensure that accommodations, transportation, and tourist destinations are ready to provide excellent experiences for both domestic and foreign visitors.
From January to September 2024, Indonesia saw 10.3 million foreign tourist visits and 757.96 million domestic trips. The country’s tourism quality has improved as shown by its ranking in the Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) by the World Economic Forum. Indonesia now ranks 22nd out of 119 countries and 2nd in ASEAN.
Despite this growth, challenges remain. Issues include cleanliness, infrastructure, and environmental sustainability. Wardhana notes the importance of collaboration to address these challenges and create better opportunities for the tourism sector.
Deputy Minister of Tourism, Ni Luh Puspa, stresses the government’s focus on tourist safety during the holidays. She mentions plans to maintain security at tourist destinations and prevent illegal fees. The Tourism Ministry will release guidelines for holiday preparations and conduct site visits to ensure security.
The ministry aims to optimize its Tourism Crisis Management efforts during the holiday season. The crisis center will be activated to respond to emergencies, including natural disasters, at tourist spots.
In summary, Indonesia is committed to enhancing holiday tourism through careful planning and collaboration. The focus is on improving visitor experiences and ensuring safety during this busy travel period.
