NORTH HOLLYWOOD, calif. – Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., once a WBC middleweight champion, is preparing to face Jake Paul in a cruiserweight match. The fight marks another chapter in the perplexing career of the 39-year-old, who has faced personal and professional challenges in recent years.
Chavez’s career has seen highs and lows, including a period when his father, the legendary Julio Cesar chavez Sr., battled addiction. Chavez Jr. himself has struggled, with a 6-5 record in recent years, including losses to Anderson Silva. He was also arrested on gun charges and entered rehab.
At the pre-fight press conference, Jake Paul targeted Chavez’s vulnerabilities. Paul said Chavez was an “embarrassment to Mexico” and alluded to his past struggles with drug addiction. He also brought Chavez Sr. onto the dais, creating an awkward dynamic.
