Jalandhar Badminton Association Proposes Solar Power Project | Cost Estimate

Jalandhar, India – February 12, 2026 – The iconic Raizada Hansraj Badminton Stadium in Jalandhar is set to receive a significant upgrade with the installation of a solar power plant, thanks to a grant of Rs. 13.48 lakh (approximately $16,300 USD) from AAP Rajya Sabha MP and former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh. The funding, allocated from Singh’s Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS), aims to enhance the stadium’s sustainability and reduce its operational costs.

The proposal for the project was spearheaded by the District Badminton Association (DBA), Jalandhar, who collaborated with the Public Works Department to develop a detailed cost estimate. Singh, known for his consistent advocacy for sports development within Punjab, swiftly approved the initiative, demonstrating a continued commitment to bolstering athletic infrastructure in the region.

This isn’t the first instance of financial support from Singh to the Raizada Hansraj Stadium. In 2023, he previously sanctioned a grant of Rs. 16.50 lakh (approximately $19,900 USD) for the installation of modern gymnasium equipment at the same venue, highlighting a sustained investment in the facility’s improvement.

Ritin Khanna, Honorary Secretary of the Punjab Badminton Association, expressed his gratitude for Singh’s ongoing support. “I last met him in 2023, when he supported the upgradation of the stadium gymnasium. Even then, he assured us of his support and asked us to approach him whenever assistance was required,” Khanna stated. He further noted Singh’s personal connection to the stadium, recalling that the MP himself played and trained at Raizada Hansraj during his early badminton years.
