Jalen Brunson Weighs In: Which Reigns Supreme in the Big Apple – NBA or NFL
Jaylen Brunson on NBA and NFL: “Defending the Pick-and-Roll is Really Difficult”
During an interview at an NFL stadium, New York Knicks’ ace guard Jaylen Brunson shared his thoughts on the challenges of playing in both the NBA and NFL.
When asked by Philadelphia Eagles’ center and NFL commentator Jason Kelce if it’s easier for NBA players to play in the NFL or vice versa, Brunson replied, “Both are pretty tough sports. It’s hard to choose, but I’m a basketball player. I think it would be easier for an NBA player to play in the NFL.”
Brunson elaborated on the difficulties of defending the pick-and-roll in basketball, saying, “Pick and roll defense is on a different level. It’s really difficult.” He also expressed his respect for the NFL, acknowledging the dangers of American football.
Despite the challenges of both sports, Brunson’s answer was lighthearted and respectful. He showed appreciation for the NFL and its players, making the interview a pleasant and enjoyable experience.
Last season, Brunson established himself as one of the top guards in the league, averaging 28.7 points, 6.7 assists, and 3.6 rebounds per game. He continued to impress in the playoffs, with averages of 32.4 points, 7.5 assists, and 3.3 rebounds.
Although Brunson’s performance earned him recognition as the “King of New York,” his salary increase was modest due to a low-cost contract with the Knicks. He signed a 4-year, $100 million contract extension, which included a significant pay cut. This move allowed the Knicks to retain their existing players and make key trades to strengthen their roster.
As the NBA season approaches, Brunson is expected to continue entertaining fans on the basketball court. His visit to the NFL stadium was a unique opportunity for him to explore another sport and show respect for its players.
