Jamal Suleiman: I Can Run for President of Syria
syrian Artist Calls for inclusive Transition, Hints at Presidential Bid
Jamal Suleiman, a prominent Syrian artist and member of teh Syrian Negotiations Committee, envisions a future Syria that embraces all its communities and moves beyond the divisive past.
Speaking to Al Arabiya, Suleiman emphasized the urgent need for a political transition that leads to an internationally recognized government, moving away from what he termed a “one-color” regime. He stressed the importance of inclusivity, stating that “Syria’s political transition must include all communities.”
Suleiman, who has been a vocal critic of the Assad regime, expressed his desire for a ”democratic Syria that includes everyone.” He outlined plans for a national dialog conference, bringing together all Syrian factions under the auspices of the United Nations and the Arab League.
Looking towards the future, Suleiman hinted at a potential presidential bid, stating that he would consider running if Syrians wanted him to.
“I expressed earlier when I was asked this question that I have this desire and that I want to be a candidate if I don’t find a candidate, be it a suitable man or woman,” he said.
Suleiman believes that Syrians should have the right to choose their leaders, breaking what he sees as the Assad regime’s “ban” on political participation.
“I want to break this ‘ban’ imposed by the regime, which is that no one has the right to run for the Presidency or the Ministry and it can only be decided by the Governing Body,” he added.
Suleiman’s comments come in the wake of the recent fall of the Assad regime, a growth he previously praised. As Syria navigates a complex and uncertain future, Suleiman’s vision of an inclusive and democratic nation offers a glimmer of hope for a brighter tomorrow.
