The BBC Proms 2026 will feature a dedicated orchestral concert celebrating the music of the James Bond film franchise, marking a significant addition to the festival’s traditionally classical programme.
Conductor Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser will lead the BBC Concert Orchestra in a “musical homage” to the iconic spy character, performing well-known themes and scores from films such as Skyfall and The Spy Who Loved Me. The event is scheduled for August 25 at the Royal Albert Hall and will be hosted by actor Nick Mohammed, known for his role in Ted Lasso.
The concert will be broadcast on BBC television and made available on BBC iPlayer, extending its reach beyond the live audience in London. This broadcast aligns with the Proms’ standard practice of televising and streaming performances for wider public access.
The James Bond orchestral night is part of an eight-week season running from July 17 to September 12, 2026, which will include 86 concerts across multiple UK cities including London, Gateshead, Bristol, Middlesbrough, Sunderland, and Mold.
Other highlights of the 2026 Proms season include a tribute to Disney composer Alan Menken, recognised for his work on The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin, as well as a celebration of prog rock classics. The festival will also mark the centenary of jazz musician Miles Davis and reflect on the legacy of Benjamin Britten, 50 years after his death.
Additional programming features a world premiere concerto by Gwilym Simcock written for Sheku Kanneh-Mason, Jess Gillam, and Ben Goldscheider, and a debut appearance by the Met Orchestra from New York, presenting concerts dedicated to the works of Mahler and Strauss.
The season will also include a performance by Ladysmith Black Mambazo honouring the 40th anniversary of Paul Simon’s Graceland album, and a special Prom by Yorkshire’s Black Dyke Band, making their sixth appearance at the festival.
Music has long been integral to the James Bond identity, beginning with Monty Norman’s signature theme. The franchise has featured title songs by artists across generations, from Shirley Bassey’s ‘Goldfinger’ and Paul McCartney and Wings’ ‘Live And Let Die’ to more recent contributions such as Adele’s ‘Skyfall’ and Sam Smith’s ‘The Writing’s On The Wall’ for Spectre.
Lana Del Rey previously composed ‘First Light’ for an upcoming James Bond video game, having earlier written the rejected track ‘24’ for Spectre, which later appeared on her album Honeymoon. The next official James Bond film remains in development, with ongoing speculation about who will perform its theme song.
Details about the full 2026 Proms schedule, including ticket information and broadcast times, are available through the official BBC Proms website.
