The Assault on James McAvoy
On January 26, 2024, actor James McAvoy was punched by an unidentified man while at a bar in Charlotte, north Carolina, during the charlotte Film Festival. According to Entertainment Weekly, McAvoy had his back turned when the man attacked him. The assailant, described as a man who had been drinking heavily and was being escorted out of the bar, initiated the attack without prior interaction or provocation.
Other patrons quickly intervened to restrain the attacker, who was afterward removed from the premises. Remarkably, Entertainment Weekly reported that McAvoy remained at the bar after the incident and “laughed off the incident with other patrons and the staff.”
“California Schemin'” and the Silibil N’ Brains Story
The incident occurred alongside the buzz surrounding the film “California Schemin'”, which is based on the true story of Scottish rap duo Silibil N’ Brains. The duo famously posed as Americans to secure a record deal. The Guardian details their audacious scheme, which involved adopting American personas and accents to infiltrate the US hip-hop scene.
Their story was previously documented in the 2013 documentary The Great Hip-Hop Hoax, reviewed by The Guardian. The film explores the lengths to which the duo went to maintain their fabricated identities and the surprising success they achieved before their deception was revealed.
