⁣

In⁤ the CBS legal drama “Shark,” James Woods played Sebastian Stark, a ⁢defense attorney ⁣known for his ruthless tactics. Stark’s mantra included ‍the idea that trial is war adn truth is relative.

The series, wich aired from 2006 to 2008, saw Stark transition from defending the ⁤guilty to prosecuting them after a moral dilemma. He⁣ successfully defended a client who then committed another murder.

The ⁤show,⁣ created ⁣by Ian Biederman, featured Danielle Panabaker as Stark’s teenage daughter. Brian⁢ Grazer, Ron Howard’s longtime producing partner, was also⁢ involved, bringing in Spike Lee to direct the pilot, shortly after Lee’s commercial success with “Inside Man.” Lee told Variety that his participation was due to his ‍good experience with Grazer⁣ on “Inside Man.”

Woods⁤ considered the role ‍tailor-made⁢ for him. His character⁤ mixed cutthroat opportunism with an evolving morality.

Despite a strong start, “Shark” was canceled after two seasons. Woods attributed ⁢the cancellation to the 2007-2008 WGA strike and time slot changes, according⁤ to the LA Times. He said the strike prevented the show from⁤ proving its strength in the ⁣second half of the ⁣season.

The show featured Jeri Ryan ⁢as⁤ a district attorney who later teamed up with Stark. Billy Campbell appeared in three episodes ⁤as serial killer ‍Wayne Robert Callison, ⁢who acted as his own defense ⁤attorney.

Woods has said “Shark” came at ⁣a vulnerable time in his life.Production was shut down for three weeks when his brother, Michael J. Woods, ⁤died. The third episode was dedicated⁤ to his memory, which⁣ Woods said moved him deeply.

Woods has said⁣ his ⁤political activism hurt his ⁣Hollywood career. He said his agent dropped him in ⁤2018 because of his politics.More⁣ recently, Woods has produced Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer.” He also recounted turning down an offer ⁢to participate in‍ an episode of “Family Guy” due⁢ to its ‍political content.

Despite its premature end, “Shark” is remembered as ⁣a cinematic legal drama and‍ some of Woods’ finest work.

What’s next

While Woods’ future on ⁢screen remains uncertain, his past⁣ performances, including “Shark,” continue to be appreciated by fans of legal dramas.
