Dublin, Ireland – Workers at the iconic Irish whiskey distillery, home to the world-renowned Jameson brand, are set to receive a one-time bonus of €4,700 (approximately $5,200) to offset potential losses from changes to the company’s profit-sharing scheme. this decision follows a advice from Ireland’s Labour Court, resolving a dispute between Irish Distillers Ltd. and the Connect trade union.
The bonus will be paid to approximately 250 workers across various roles within the company. The Labour Court rejected a proposal from the union to extend the bonus to new employees, stating that it was intended to compensate existing staff for potential losses stemming from the profit-sharing adjustments.
Irish Distillers, which produces some of the world’s most popular Irish whiskeys, including the best-selling Jameson, maintained that the proposed package was fair for all employees.
The agreement also includes an increase in the “upside element” of the profit-sharing scheme, raising the value from €150 to €175 for each 1% achievement in global net sales, up to a maximum of 3% overachievement.
While the Connect union had initially sought a higher upside value of €300 per 1% of global net sales, they ultimately accepted the Labour Court’s recommendation.
Along with the bonus and profit-sharing adjustments, the agreement also includes an annual health benefit allowance of €1,300 and enhanced holiday benefits.
Cheers to a Sweet Deal: Jameson Workers Celebrate Bonus

“It’s great to see the company recognizing the hard work and dedication of its employees,” said one worker, who wished to remain anonymous. “The changes to the profit-sharing scheme were a concern, but this bonus helps to ease the transition.”
Another worker expressed gratitude for the union’s efforts in negotiating a fair deal. “The Connect union fought hard for us, and we’re grateful for their support,” they said.
The bonus is a welcome boost for workers, many of whom have been facing rising living costs. It’s also a testament to the success of the Jameson brand, which continues to be a global favorite.
Jameson Workers raise a Glass to €4,700 Bonus
Aoife: Did you hear about the bonus Jameson workers are getting?
Colm: No, I didn’t. What’s that about?
Aoife: Apparently, they’re all getting €4,700 each as a one-time bonus. It’s to make up for changes to their profit-sharing scheme.
colm: Wow, that’s pretty generous! Why the changes to the profit-sharing, though?
Aoife: There was a bit of a dispute between the workers’ union, Connect, and Irish Distillers, the company that owns Jameson. The union wasn’t happy with the proposed changes,so they took it to the Labor Court.
Colm: I see. And the court sided with the workers?
Aoife: Sort of. They recommended this bonus as a compromise. The court didn’t extend the bonus to new employees, though, which the union had originally wanted.
Colm: Makes sense, I guess. It’s meant to compensate the existing workers for any potential losses from the new profit-sharing deal.
Aoife: Exactly. But it’s not just the bonus. The agreement also includes some other nice perks, like an increase in the profit-sharing ‘upside’ – they’ll get more money if the company exceeds its sales targets. Plus, there’s a health benefit allowance and better holiday benefits.
Colm: Sounds like a pretty sweet deal for the Jameson workers. Good for them!
Aoife: Definitely. It shows that the company values its employees and is willing to invest in them. Plus, it’s great to see Irish brands treating their workers fairly.
Colm: Cheers to that! Maybe I should switch to Jameson now.
*aoife: (laughs)* Maybe they’ll give you a bonus too!
