NAMA Trial Uncovers Alleged Sinn Féin, DUP Collusion
Updated may 27, 2025
A Belfast court heard evidence Tuesday in the NAMA trial, revealing alleged Twitter exchanges between loyalist activist Jamie Bryson and a Sinn Féin member’s account. the messages surfaced in advance of a Northern Assembly committee meeting in 2015.
Bryson, along wiht Thomas Gerard O’Hara and Daithi McKay, faces charges stemming from the meeting, which investigated the handling of Northern Ireland property loans by the National Asset management Agency (NAMA). Bryson testified at the September 2015 hearing, naming individuals, including Peter Robinson of the DUP, who he claimed would benefit financially from the NAMA deal.
Prosecutors contend that McKay, who chaired the committee, and O’Hara conspired with Bryson to subvert committee rules and politically embarrass Robinson, then the frist minister. The crown alleges manipulation of evidence presentation through messages exchanged between Bryson, McKay, and O’Hara.
Bryson, 35, O’Hara, 41, and McKay, 43, have all pleaded not guilty to the charges. The trial, now in its second week, presented screenshots of alleged Twitter messages exchanged before the committee session.
The messages suggest Bryson discussed the need for “transparency” with McKay, who reminded him to stay within the committee’s terms. Othre messages, purportedly from O’Hara’s account, offered suggestions to Bryson on how to refer to Robinson during his testimony without being interrupted.
One message from O’Hara’s account advised Bryson to “Read the top table and don’t snap back at the DUP. Kill then with kindness. Be professional and courteous.”
Bryson allegedly replied,“Who would ever have thought it,me and SF working together as the DUP squirm! Unreal”
The account of O’Hara allegedly responded,“You will be trending by teatime, lol.”
A digital expert testified that while the screenshots appeared genuine, fabrication or modification could not be ruled out. Solicitor Paul Tweed also testified, declining to answer questions about legal correspondence related to Bryson’s book on the NAMA property portfolio, citing client confidentiality.
