Updated June 19, 2025
Jamie Coward, a Yorkshireman road racer, is set to return to competition at the Armoy road races on July 25-26, weeks after a crash at the North West 200. This year marked Coward’s first appearance at the North West as 2022. His machinery included a factory-backed Triumph for the Supersport class, along with BMW bikes for the 1000cc categories.
Before the crash, Coward secured sixth-place finishes in both the Superbike and Supersport races on Thursday evening. He has previously achieved podiums at both the North West and the Isle of Man TT.
Coward, riding for KTS Steadplan Racing, looks to recapture his pre-crash form. He was named man-of-the-meeting at Armoy in 2024.
“I’m hoping that the confidence is still there when I get back on the bike and I’ll be trying my best to get back to where I was,” Coward said.
Reflecting on the North West crash, Coward recalls attempting a pass on the last lap. “I tried to go past somebody into the last corner. He went defensive…and as I grabbed the brake I lost the front end. When I hit the floor I blacked out and I can’t remember anything else until I woke up in the hospital.”
Coward expressed gratitude that the crash wasn’t career-ending,noting that previous incidents at the same location had resulted in such outcomes for other racers.
He also fondly recalls his past experiences at Armoy. “I absolutely love the Armoy road races. It’s very reminiscent of the Southern 100 races where I started my road racing career,” Coward said. He emphasized the kind atmosphere created by the organizers and the enthusiastic spectators.
Last year, Coward dominated the Supertwins races, setting a new lap record of 100.536 mph.He also secured two third-place finishes and a fourth in other races at the County Antrim event.
“You cross the finish line and people are waving their programmes at you. There’s no other feeling like it,” Coward said.
coward hopes to contend for wins and podiums again. “If I can find that confidence I had before the crash then we should be there or thereabouts and fighting for podiums and wins again,” he stated.
