The Alleged Threat
According to a criminal complaint filed in state court on october 20, 2024, Christopher Moynihan, 34, allegedly communicated his intent to harm Representative Jeffries via text messages on October 17, 2024. The messages were sent to an anonymous individual who subsequently alerted state police.
The complaint details disturbing statements, including: “I cannot allow this terrorist to live
,” and “Even if I am hated he must be eliminated … I will kill him for the future.
” The recipient of these messages expressed concern not only about the threat to Jeffries but also about Moynihan’s increasing drug use and “homicidal ideations,” as documented in an extreme risk protection order.
moynihan’s Background and Arrest
Moynihan, a resident of Clinton, New York, was arrested on Sunday, October 20, 2024, and charged with making a terroristic threat.He was arraigned on Tuesday,October 22,2024,and entered a plea of not guilty. He is currently being held pending further legal proceedings.
Notably, Moynihan was among those pardoned by former President Donald Trump earlier in 2024 for his involvement in the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.
