Janja Lula da Silva Clashes with Elon Musk at G20, Urges Social Media Regulation
Brazil’s first lady, Janja Lula da Silva, criticized billionaire Elon Musk at a G20 social event. She spoke about regulating social media to control misinformation. During her speech, a ship’s horn sounded, prompting her to joke, “I think it’s Elon Musk,” and added, “I’m not afraid of you, f*** you, Elon Musk.”
Musk, the owner of the social network X, responded by posting a laughing emoji in reaction to her remarks. He also commented, “They are going to lose the next election,” referring to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
Janja Lula da Silva spoke at an event before the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, which was set for Monday and Tuesday. Musk’s platform faced a month-long suspension in Brazil this year for not naming a legal representative and for ignoring court orders to block accounts accused of spreading fake news and hate.
