Japan Open: Boulter Defeated, Osaka Wins After Injury

Boulter Falls to Cirstea ​at Japan open

Katie Boulter,the British⁢ number three ranked 59th in the world,was defeated by‍ Romania’s‍ Sorana Cirstea,ranked 51st,in the second round of ‌the Japan Open in Osaka on October⁣ 16,2025. Cirstea secured the victory with a score of 6-3, 6-1, completing the match in one hour and nine ‌minutes.

Early Breaks Define First Set

The opening set was characterized by a ⁢series of breaks of serve, with three occurring within ‌the first four games. Cirstea capitalized on these opportunities, establishing a 3-1 lead and ⁤ultimately closing out the set 6-3.

Cirstea Dominates ⁣Second Set

Cirstea continued her aggressive ⁢play⁣ into the second ​set,breaking​ Boulter’s⁢ serve three times ⁤to quickly​ build a ‌commanding‌ 5-0 advantage. While Boulter managed to break back, she⁢ was unable to consolidate the break, and Cirstea‍ held serve to secure her place in the quarter-finals.

Boulter’s ⁢run‍ at ​the Japan Open followed a notable first-round ‌upset against Linda Noskova, ranked 17th in the world, demonstrating her potential on the hard courts of Osaka.
