Following his detention, Harris was released on December 8, 2025, pending further investigation. The case has been forwarded to the Naha District Public Prosecutors Office.

Spokespeople for both the Tomishiro police station in Okinawa’s Tomigusuku City and the prosecutors office declined to comment on the status of potential charges when contacted by the New York Times and AFP,respectively.
