WBSC/KONAMI Men’s Baseball World Rankings: Japan Retains Top Spot
Japan has maintained its position as the world’s top-ranked baseball team, with 4,899 points, following its victory in the WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup in Colombia. This achievement solidifies Japan’s dominance in the sport, as the country currently holds the WBSC U-15, U-18, and U-23 Baseball World Cup titles, as well as the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup, World Baseball Classic, Olympic Gold Medal, and Premier12 titles.
The top three positions in the rankings are occupied by Japan, Mexico (4,063 points), and Chinese Taipei (3,706 points), respectively.
The WBSC/KONAMI Men’s Baseball World Rankings are calculated based on results from international tournaments over a four-year period. This includes results from the WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup, WBSC U-12 and U-18 Baseball World Cup European Qualifier Tournaments, U-15 Pan Am Qualifier Tournaments, European Championship Qualifier Tournaments, and several Friendly Series. However, points from the WBSC Premier12 2019 are excluded from the calculation. View the points calculation methodology.
The United States has dropped to fourth place, while Venezuela has risen to fifth. South Korea has dropped two places to sixth, and the Netherlands remains the top European country in seventh place.
Puerto Rico and Colombia have made significant gains, securing 10th and 11th place, respectively, among the top 12 teams.
Nicaragua has risen three places to 17th in the world, representing the biggest improvement among the top 25 countries.
Other notable improvements include the Bahamas, which has risen 12 places to 47th, and Poland, which has risen 11 places to 61st.
The next WBSC/KONAMI Men’s Baseball World Rankings will be released following the WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup, scheduled to take place from 6-15 September.
