Taiwan Advances to Semi-Finals in Baseball Competition

Taiwan’s baseball team made history by reaching the semi-finals of the world’s top 12 baseball competition. Chen Guanyu, a prominent player, expressed his belief that Taiwan could compete against the Japanese All-Stars.

From 2015 to 2024, Chen participated in every top 12 game. In the current tournament, he pitched a total of 2.2 innings, allowing just one hit and striking out three batters, with no runs scored against him.

After defeating Australia, Taiwan secured its place in the semi-finals in Tokyo. Chen thanked his teammates and expressed gratitude towards Taiwan for the opportunity to showcase their talent on an international stage. He emphasized, “We made history,” and pledged full effort in the upcoming matches.

Chen acknowledged that while Taiwan lost 1-3 to Japan in the preliminary match, he remains optimistic. He noted that even with a less favorable lineup this year, the team can still compete tightly against Japan. He added that as long as there is a chance to play, “it is certainly not a dream.”

The Taiwanese team has had strong support, drawing over 150,000 fans during the tournament with a record of four wins and one loss.

In a lighter moment, Chen joked about his stress during games, saying he wished to leave the field quickly after high-pressure situations.
