Jardine Matheson is consolidating its head office operations by exiting its remaining office space in the FWD Tower at Taikoo Place and relocating staff back to Jardine House in Central, according to sources.
The move is part of a broader operational consolidation. The conglomerate currently occupies one floor in the FWD Tower and had already surrendered one floor in 2025. The current relocation will see the company give up its final remaining space in the building.
Jardine House Renovations and Timeline
The group’s primary office at Jardine House, which is part of its own property portfolio, is undergoing renovations to modernize the workspace. These updates are intended to allow the company to operate more collaboratively and dynamically
.
Sources familiar with the matter stated that the renovated space is now undergoing renovations to create a modern workspace that will accommodate all head office employees from May
.
This transition follows a schedule where the company’s flagship headquarters was slated for renovation in December 2025. During that period, a temporary office was established in a commercial space in Quarry Bay to maintain operations.
Strategic Shift and Staff Centralization
The office consolidation coincides with a strategic shift by the Jardine Matheson Group toward an investment portfolio model. As part of this shift, the company has confirmed staff reductions.
Operational changes include the centralization of employees responsible for the daily operations of the group’s investment portfolio. These staff members, who were previously dispersed across various offices, will now be centralized at Jardine House.
Exclusions and Landlord Confirmation
The relocation is limited to the parent firm’s operations and does not affect all units under the Jardine Matheson umbrella. DFI Retail Group, which operates Ikea, 7-Eleven, Mannings, and Wellcome in Hong Kong, is not affected by the move.
According to its 2025 annual report, DFI Retail Group is listed as occupying the fifth floor of the FWD Tower.
Swire Properties, the landlord of Taikoo Place, confirmed the current tenancy of Jardine Matheson but declined to provide further comments on the exit.
Market Context
The decision to consolidate in Central reflects a wider trend in the Hong Kong office market, where landlords are pushing premium space and a split is emerging between core business districts and decentralized areas.
Jardine Matheson maintains its registered office at Jardine House, located at 33-35 Reid.
