Jasper Philipsen, the highly-rated sprinter, has opened up about the extent of his injuries following a important crash during the Tour de France. The incident forced him to abandon the race, derailing his ambitions for the season. Philipsen described the crash as “physically, definitely the toughest of my career,” highlighting the mental toll of having to “abandon your plans like this and start from scratch.”
A Season Compromised
This Tour de France crash was not Philipsen’s first setback of the 2025 season. Earlier in March, he suffered a heavy fall at nokere Koerse, which considerably impacted his spring Classics campaign. The Tour presented an opportunity for Philipsen to contend for the green jersey, currently held by Jonathan Milan, and add to his impressive Tour de France stage win tally. However, these aspirations were extinguished last week.He is now recalibrating his goals, with races like the Bretagne Classic-Ouest france and Paris-Tours being potential targets for the latter part of the season.
Healing Well, Despite the Pain
While the mental challenge of adjusting his objectives and regaining full fitness remains, philipsen is reporting positive physical recovery.
Rib Fractures: “Very Clean”
“I broke one or two ribs, but they were secondary to the doctors,” Philipsen stated. “The fractures are very clean and they don’t bother me much, only when I cough.”
Collarbone Injury: Managing Without Painkillers
The more significant injury appears to be his collarbone fracture. “My collarbone fracture is much more complex. That’s where I was in the most pain, but since yesterday,I can manage without painkillers, and I feel pretty good now.”
Road Rash and Abrasions: Rapid Healing
philipsen also detailed the healing process for his road rash and abrasions. “The road rash and abrasions are also healing well. Almost my entire back was open - in the past, that always used to bother me for a long time, but its been a week, and the injuries have mostly healed. I think that’s because I was in top form, which always helps you heal faster, and also because I took it easy for a week.”
