Dr. Javier Di Noia, a professor at the Université de Montréal and researcher at the Institut de Recherches Cliniques de Montréal (IRCM), has been named the recipient of the Investigator Award by the Canadian Society for Immunology (CSI) for its 2026 annual edition.
The award recognizes his significant contributions to the field of immunology, particularly his work on antibody diversification and the role of the activation-induced deaminase (AID) enzyme in immune response.
As Director of the B Cell Molecular Biology Research Unit at the IRCM, Dr. Di Noia has advanced understanding of how B lymphocytes mutate antibody genes to improve affinity and change isotype, a process essential for effective immunity.
His research has clarified the molecular mechanisms controlling targeted mutagenesis in antibody genes, the processes that allow B cells to survive in the germinal centre microenvironment, and the balance between beneficial antibody diversification and the oncogenic risks associated with AID activity.
