Giants QB Dart Impresses Coaches Early in Training Camp
New York Giants rookie quarterback spencer Dart is making a strong impression at training camp. Coach Brian Daboll has noted Dart’s progress, notably his ability to quickly absorb information. Dart, an Ole Miss alumnus, has moved up from the third team to working with the second team and even getting some reps with the frist team.
“He’s done excellent picking up information,” Daboll said. “It’s really good to have Russ and Jameis and even Tommy because Tommy has been in this system for a few years here. He’s fit right in with those guys. He’s smart, aggressive with the football, which I like.”
Daboll also spoke about the challenges of integrating young players into the mix. “There’s usually a level of anxiety at times for young players when they get thrown into the mix,” Daboll said.”It’s not exactly planned in terms of he’s getting reps there. Sometimes we’ll just say ‘get in there.’ Then he’s calling plays in front of veterans who have done it at a high level.”
Quarterbacks coach Shea Tierney praised Dart’s readiness and transition to the professional level. “It’s been remarkable to see the last couple weeks just how he’s prepared and made the transition to becoming a pro,” Tierney said. “we thought that about him, which is one of the reasons why we liked him.”
Russell Wilson signed to be the Giants’ starting quarterback and is expected to maintain that role. However, Dart’s performance has met every expectation set by the coaching staff, signaling a promising future for the young quarterback and solidifying the Giants’ QB depth.
