JB Marks Oval Showdown: Dragons and Lions Battle for Victory on Day 4
Dominic Hendricks and Wihan Lubbe, captains of the Renault Potchefstroom North-West Dragons and the DP World Lions, agreed to a draw on the fourth day of their CSA 4-Day Series match at JB Marks Oval.
The Dragons batted first after winning the toss, scoring 425 for six declared in their first innings. The Lions responded with 399 for nine declared. The Dragons then had an unbroken opening partnership of 136 runs by tea. In total, 289.3 overs were bowled, with many lost due to bad light and rain.
Raynard van Tonder played a key role for the Dragons, scoring 120 off 221 balls. This was his eighth first-class century. He partnered with Wihan Lubbe for a 149-run fourth-wicket stand, during which Lubbe scored 85, marking his 14th first-class half-century. Van Tonder also partnered with Taheer Isaacs, who contributed 59 not out.
The Lions struggled early but found stability with half-centuries from Joshua Richards (75) and Wiaan Mulder (56). They formed a 192-run seventh-wicket partnership with Bjorn Fortuin and Connor Esterhuizen. Esterhuizen scored 83 runs, while Fortuin starred with a 120 off 140 balls, marking his seventh first-class century.
Matthew Kleinveldt (76 not out) and Janneman Malan (55 not out) finished the match for the Dragons with a solid 136-run opening stand. Malan achieved his 17th first-class half-century, while Kleinveldt reached his 35th.
Ruan de Swardt was the top bowler, taking five wickets for 67 runs. Tshepo Moreki was the best bowler for the Lions, with three wickets for 69 runs.
