JBL weighs in on WWE creative direction, praises Triple H
Updated June 11, 2025
WWE Hall of Famer JBL recently shared his outlook on WWE’s current creative strategies, focusing on storytelling and fan engagement. Speaking on “Something to Wrestle With,” JBL acknowledged WWE’s ongoing success but voiced concerns about one particular aspect: the post-show press conferences.
JBL expressed strong disapproval of the press conferences. “Those press conferences are horrible,” JBL said. “I hate them because there’s no way to win with those things, because you want to either stay in character or not stay in character. It’s hard to do both. It’s hard to work and then also shoot on those things. I don’t get the press conferences.”
Despite his reservations about revealing too much of the creative process, JBL commended Triple H for a recent booking decision. He specifically cited the handling of the R-Truth storyline as an example of smart creative management, noting how it successfully blurred the lines between what is real and what is part of the show.
“I like what Triple H did, because he kept the intrigue of maybe this was a work all along, and so now you don’t know what is… I love that, because that blurs that line,” JBL stated. He added, “Right now is the easiest time to work people. They expect you to be completely transparent. So now is the easiest time to work people.”
What’s next
It remains to be seen whether WWE will adjust its approach to post-show interactions. JBL’s comments highlight an ongoing debate within the wrestling world about how much to reveal to fans and the importance of maintaining kayfabe in the modern era.
