Jeff Bridges Stars in The Old Man Series Premiere

The action thriller series The Old Man, starring Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow, has concluded its run on FX after two seasons. The series, which premiered on June 16, 2022, was officially canceled in December 2024.

Developed by Jonathan E. Steinberg and Robert Levine, the show is based on the 2017 novel of the same name written by Thomas Perry. The narrative follows Dan Chase, a former CIA operative and Vietnam veteran who had spent time in Afghanistan 30 years prior to the events of the series.

The story centers on Chase’s life in hiding after he kills an intruder who breaks into his home. While on the run, he rents a room from Zoe McDonald, who eventually becomes his forced partner.

The primary antagonist is Harold Harper, the FBI Assistant Director for Counterintelligence. Harper is tasked with apprehending Chase due to a complicated history involving the Soviet-Afghan War.

Harper’s operation to capture Chase involves a team including FBI agent Angela Adams, CIA officer Raymond Waters, and Julian Carson, a professional hit-man hired to eliminate Chase.

The first season of the series consisted of seven episodes. Following the initial premiere, FX renewed the series for a second season, which debuted on September 12, 2024.

The second season brought the total episode count to 15. The series concluded its original broadcast run on October 24, 2024, before the cancellation announcement in December 2024.
