Typhoon Konglei Brings Heavy Rain and Strong Winds to Jeju Island

Strong rain and wind are hitting the southern coast of Jeju Island, with a heavy rain and strong wind warning issued for the area. Water vapor is flowing in, forming rain clouds and bringing heavy precipitation to the region.

Typhoon Konglei, which struck Taiwan, is currently moving along the southern coast of China with its strength weakening. The typhoon is expected to weaken to a low-pressure system offshore overnight, and remaining rain clouds are expected to affect Korea as well.

Jeju Island and Southern Region Affected

Rain clouds are forming in Jeju Island and the southern region as water vapor flows in from the front of the typhoon. Although the rain clouds left by the typhoon have not yet flowed in in earnest, the amount of precipitation per hour is gradually increasing.

Heavy rain of 30 to 50 mm per hour is expected in the mountains of Jeju between this afternoon and early morning tomorrow. A heavy rain warning and a strong wind warning have been issued for the mountains of Jeju, and a wind warning is being issued focusing on the southern seas.

Weather Forecast

Heavy rain of up to 300 mm or more will fall in the mountains of Jeju Island until tomorrow morning. Heavy rain of up to 100 mm or more is expected in the southern coast of Gyeongnam, including the southern coast of Jeollanam-do and Busan.

Strong winds of around 25 meters per second will blow in Jeju Island and the southern coast, and high waves will rise at sea. There is a possibility of flight delays or cancellations on Jeju Island, and coastal areas with strong rain and wind will need to be careful about safety accidents until tomorrow morning.
