September 7, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor News

Israel Ends Military Operation in Jenin, West Bank

After a 10-day campaign that resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries

The Palestinian News and Information‌ Agency (Wafa)‍ reported that the Israeli army’s operation in the northern West Bank city of Jenin has ended.

The agency ⁢said Israeli forces had withdrawn from the West ‍Bank city of⁢ Jenin and its camps⁣ after 10 days of‌ violent and sustained military operations ⁤that left dozens ‌dead ‍and injured and caused widespread destruction.

The Israeli military did not ⁣immediately confirm the report, but said only that “Israeli forces are still active in achieving the objectives of⁤ the counter-terrorism operation.”

The Israeli⁤ army announced‍ the elimination of 14 militants and the arrest of more than ‌30 suspects in Jenin.

According⁣ to WAFA, 21 Palestinians were killed, including children and the elderly, and others were injured, some seriously,‌ in the Israeli offensive against the⁤ Jenin governorate, which was described as the bloodiest and most violent since 2002.

Palestinian reports also said the Israeli army had also withdrawn from the northwestern West Bank town of Tulkarm, where it had carried out ‌small-scale military operations.

Meanwhile, ⁣Palestinian sources‌ said that a 13-year-old girl was shot in the chest and ‍killed after an attack on settlers guarded by Israeli forces in Qariut village south of Nablus on Friday evening.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society reported that “its crews dealt with the injuries of a ‌child who‍ was seriously wounded in the chest by live occupation ‍bullets, ⁣during clashes with occupation forces, and was transferred to the Rafidiya Surgical Hospital in ⁣Nablus, where doctors pronounced him dead from his injuries.”

According to the Wafa agency, the girl’s father reported that his child “was hit by a live bullet while he was in his room with‍ his sisters at the time”.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health in ⁣Ramallah said that the young woman was killed by Israeli soldiers. ⁤The Israeli army confirmed it was investigating the⁣ incident.

Palestinian media reported that‍ Israeli settlers entered a Palestinian village near the northern West Bank city of Nablus and attacked Palestinian homes.

Clashes broke ‌out ‌with the⁢ residents before the Israeli army intervened by opening fire.

On the 28th of‌ last month, the‌ Israeli army announced the launch of a military operation targeting Palestinian militants in the West Bank, which it⁣ called⁤ “Summer Camp”.

The situation in the ‌West Bank has deteriorated significantly since the start of the ⁣war in Gaza following the Hamas attack on Israel last October 7. Since then, more than 700 Palestinians have been killed in ⁣Israeli military operations, clashes or attacks in the ⁢West Bank, according ⁣to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

Palestinian reports indicate that‌ Israel has arrested ‍10,300 Palestinians since October ‌7 during‍ raids in the West Bank under the pretext of arresting wanted persons.
