Jennifer Lawrence Discusses Family Warnings About ‘Dangerous’ Documentary ‘Bread and Roses’
Jennifer Lawrence Expresses Concerns About Documentary Involvement
Pregnant actress Jennifer Lawrence shared her worries about participating in the documentary Bread and Roses. She co-produced the film with Malala Yousafzai, focusing on the struggles of women in Afghanistan under Taliban rule.
During her interview on CBS Morning, host Gayle King asked Lawrence if her family and friends had any concerns about her speaking out on this sensitive issue. Lawrence explained that her loved ones did advise against her involvement, highlighting the dangers involved. “It’s dangerous — of course it is. But there’s 20 million women whose lives are in danger,” she stated.
Lawrence also addressed criticism regarding her background. She mentioned her lack of formal education, stating, “I dropped out of middle school, so I’m technically not educated.” She acknowledged that some may question her authority on political matters because of this. However, she emphasized that the issue at hand is about lives and not just politics.
“It’s political in the sense that you should push your congresspeople and you should get involved to make our government more accountable,” she said. “But I don’t find it political. I am educated in filmmaking. I’m educated in telling stories.”
The documentary Bread and Roses is set to premiere on Apple TV+ on November 22.
