Jennie of BLACKPINK Addresses Indoor Smoking Controversy
Jennie of BLACKPINK, a group that recently apologized after being reported for smoking indoors, mentioned the controversy in an interview with an American media outlet, saying, “If Koreans think (smoking indoors) is wrong, it needs to be fixed.”
On the 19th (local time), Harper’s Bazaar released an interview titled “Jenni Is Going Her Own Way”. The interview also mentioned the controversy over Jenny’s smoking at home.
The media wrote that Blackpink’s private life is a luxury and that even the slightest exposure of a member’s natural beauty could lead to an accident. At the same time, she added that the authorities have issued a statement and officially apologized for the video of Jenny smoking an e-cigarette at home during her visit to Italy.
Jennie’s response was later, “What should I do? If Koreans think this (smoking indoors) is wrong, I have to fix it.” The media explained that Jenny tries to see their concerns from the fans’ perspective. Jenny added, “I understand why people are upset. This is a cultural and historical thing, and it’s a matter of time. I can’t resist time.”
Last July, Jennie posted the video “A Moment in Capri with Jennie” on her personal YouTube channel. At the time, Jenny was caught vaping indoors while doing her makeup in the waiting room. Since Jenny was directing the smoke at the staff, criticism was raised that her behavior was even more rude.
Jenny’s agency, OA Entertainment, then said, “We would like to sincerely apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable with Jenny’s behavior in the content posted on the 2nd. Jenny also smoked at home, which caused harm to other staff members. “I have reflected on what I did, and I also directly contacted the staff who were on site at the time to apologize,” she explained.
Jennie is planning to return with a new single in October in collaboration with Columbia Records, one of the major American record labels.
