Steelers’ Offensive Line Vital to Aaron⁢ Rodgers’ Success, Says Bettis

updated June 26, 2025

As aaron ⁣Rodgers prepares for his frist ‌training camp with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Hall of Fame running back Jerome Bettis believes the team’s‌ success hinges on one critical factor: protecting their quarterback. bettis said the Steelers’ offensive line must solidify to maximize Rodgers’ value,‍ even at 41.

“I think the one big⁢ question that you have to ask yourself is,can you ⁢protect ⁣him?” bettis told CBS Sports. He added that protecting Rodgers must be the Steelers’ top priority. “If you can protect him, then you can get all the value out of him and that position.”

Bettis’ comments come as‌ Rodgers is⁣ set to participate in the American Century championship celebrity golf tournament alongside the Steelers legend. Bettis hopes Rodgers can lead the Steelers to a Super Bowl victory, ‌much like he did in ‍2005.

The Steelers’ offensive line features young talent. Isaac Seumalo, 31, and Broderick‌ jones, a 2023 first-round pick, are the only expected starters with more than one year of NFL experience. Zach Frazier, Mason McCormick and Troy ⁣Fautanu round out the line. Fautanu, a 2024 first-round pick, is slated to start at right tackle.

Bettis stressed the ‌importance of a strong running game, led by Jaylen Warren and rookie Kaleb Johnson, to support Rodgers. ‍He noted that Warren and Johnson will need to replace the production of⁤ Najee Harris, who ⁣signed with the Chargers after ⁤four seasons with the Steelers.

“You needed a great ‌running game for sure,”⁤ Bettis said. “So now you’re not ‍asking him to drop back 35, 40 times with an ⁣offensive line ⁤that’s probably not the best pass blocking offensive line.”

Bettis also acknowledged the Steelers’ efforts to improve receiver depth and run defence this offseason.

What’s next

The Steelers will focus on solidifying their offensive line during training camp to ensure Aaron Rodgers receives adequate protection. A strong running game will also ‍be a key component of the Steelers’ offensive strategy.
