Seeds of Faith Planted by Generations Now Blossom Among Uyghur Communities
For generations, the prayers and tireless efforts of missionaries have been a quiet force along Kazakhstan’s eastern border with China, a region where the Uyghur people have long faced immense challenges. Today, those prayers are yielding a remarkable harvest, as an increasing number of Uyghurs are turning to faith, embracing the message of the Gospel. This spiritual awakening is a testament to enduring hope and the powerful work of the Holy Spirit.
The Humble Beginnings of a Growing Movement
The story of this spiritual resurgence is deeply personal for manny, including Marat Urazov, who co-pastors a house church that began with just a handful of believers. “My wife and I are praying that God will touch everyone among the Uyghur community here so that they would all hear the Good News and spread God’s Word; that’s the reason we are here,” Urazov shared, highlighting the profound dedication driving this ministry.
The growth, though steady, is a source of immense gratitude. What started as a small gathering has, over two years, blossomed into a community of about a dozen individuals attending weekly services. This growth is fueled by the unwavering commitment of evangelists like Gulbakhram, who dedicates her days to sharing the Gospel door-to-door in villages across the region.
“I visit people’s homes almost every day. God gives me faith and love to spread His message of Grace,” Gulbakhram told CBN News. “Sometimes people don’t listen and aren’t interested. Other times, they want me to share more about the gospel. When I talk to people, the Holy Spirit is working and I’m grateful to God for this precious gift. I cannot express with words how happy I am.” Her words encapsulate the profound joy and fulfillment found in this sacred work, even amidst potential rejection.
A Legacy of Perseverance and Answered Prayer
The spiritual conversion unfolding among the Uyghur people is particularly poignant for Wally Kulakoff, an Australian-american with deep family ties to the region. Kulakoff becomes visibly emotional when witnessing firsthand the impact of decades of prayer and missionary work.
“My parents prayed, my grandparents prayed, and who sees the result? Me,” Kulakoff expressed, his voice thick with emotion. “I say, ‘why, Lord? Why is it me? Why is it me, oh Lord, to be able to see answered prayer of my parents?'”
Kulakoff’s family legacy in this area spans generations. His grandparents and parents lived among the Uyghur people for a significant period, immersing themselves in their language, culture, and daily lives.”My mother was there,my dad was nine years old, they lived amongst the Uyghur people for a period of 30 years,” Kulakoff recounted.”They spoke their language, they understood their culture, they ate their food, they lived together with them.”
During their time, they faced considerable challenges in sharing Christ’s love, frequently enough seeing little immediate fruit from their labor. Yet, their perseverance laid a foundation of faith. “You have no boundaries for the Holy Spirit; there is no boundary for what you can do,” Kulakoff declared during a recent prayer service, echoing the boundless nature of divine influence.
Witnessing the Harvest: A New Era of Faith
Now,kulakoff walks the same land, having served as a missionary in the region for 25 years. He has personally witnessed the powerful movement of God among the Uyghurs and other ethnic groups in Central Asia. he feels a profound humility, recognizing that he is the beneficiary of his family’s prayers and unwavering dedication, seeds of faith they planted but did not live to see fully bloom.
“A hundred years later, for me to come back and to see the uyghur people,” Kulakoff reflected, his voice filled with awe. “This is an emotional moment. I can rejoice in the fact that they are coming to no God, slowly but methodically, and Jesus Christ appears to these people.”
Recently, Kulakoff, along with fellow believers like Rico, gathered at the Kazakh-China border to pray for the continued spiritual advancement in the region. As the seeds of faith take root and flourish in the hearts of the Uyghur people, it is indeed evident that God’s presence is undeniably felt across this vast land of Kazakhstan. This era marks not an end, but the profound beginning of a
