A private jet crash in San Diego’s Murphy Canyon neighborhood‌ killed six people, leaving a scene‌ captured by a Ring video camera. Kathryn Shubin, returning from Japan, learned of the tragedy unfolding outside her home via her Ring doorbell.

The Ring camera recorded a neighbor frantically alerting Shubin’s‌ family to the fire early Thursday.Shubin, communicating remotely, urged the neighbor to wake her family. “Nothing in my brain would make sense as to why ⁢the ‍entirety of my neighborhood was on fire,” Shubin said.

Unable to reach her husband by phone, Shubin contacted a former co-worker living nearby, who confirmed her‍ husband, two children, and two dogs had safely evacuated. Neighbors aided in the‌ evacuation,one providing a wagon for the toddler ​and infant,another helping with ‌the dogs. the family gathered with other displaced​ residents at the ‌nearby Navy Exchange.

“Oh inferno, the whole ​place was an inferno, it looked apocalyptic, truly, your brain couldn’t make a connection on what would cause so much destruction in a quiet neighborhood like this,” Kathryn Shubin, San ​Diego Resident said.

What’s next

Shubin was able to⁤ retrieve ‍some belongings, but the‍ family’s​ return to their home remains uncertain as authorities investigate the plane crash and⁤ assess the damage.
