Ring Camera Captures Aftermath of San Diego Plane Crash
A private jet crash in San Diego’s Murphy Canyon neighborhood killed six people, leaving a scene captured by a Ring video camera. Kathryn Shubin, returning from Japan, learned of the tragedy unfolding outside her home via her Ring doorbell.
The Ring camera recorded a neighbor frantically alerting Shubin’s family to the fire early Thursday.Shubin, communicating remotely, urged the neighbor to wake her family. “Nothing in my brain would make sense as to why the entirety of my neighborhood was on fire,” Shubin said.
Unable to reach her husband by phone, Shubin contacted a former co-worker living nearby, who confirmed her husband, two children, and two dogs had safely evacuated. Neighbors aided in the evacuation, one providing a wagon for the toddler and infant, another helping with the dogs. the family gathered with other displaced residents at the nearby Navy Exchange.
“Oh inferno, the whole place was an inferno, it looked apocalyptic, truly, your brain couldn’t make a connection on what would cause so much destruction in a quiet neighborhood like this,” Kathryn Shubin, San Diego Resident said.
What’s next
Shubin was able to retrieve some belongings, but the family’s return to their home remains uncertain as authorities investigate the plane crash and assess the damage.
