Rescuers Recover Stolen Property in Mae Sai Disaster Area
Rescuers successfully recovered stolen property after a thief posed as a victim and stole a bag from a jet ski rider in the Mae Sai disaster area.
Ms. Nimnuan Suphanyot, an official of the Phetkasem Foundation, revealed that during the rescue efforts, a Burmese man stole a bag containing cash, a phone, and valuables from a jet ski rider who was helping victims in the Ban Mai Lung Khan market area.
The thief had requested to sit on the back of the jet ski, which then capsized, allowing him to steal the bag. However, the owner of the jet ski, Mr. Konkan Chanloy, used iCloud’s Find My iPhone tracking system to locate the phone and recover the stolen bag.
The incident highlights the presence of criminals in the affected areas, who are taking advantage of the disaster to steal from victims. Ms. Suphanyot warned that these thieves may present themselves as disaster victims and urged villagers and rescue teams to be cautious.
She also emphasized the importance of volunteers and rescue teams working together to help the victims, saying that “all the volunteers who come here come with personal funds and a volunteer spirit. They have no money, only the heart to help.”
The Phetkasem Foundation and local authorities are urging villagers to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police or local rescue teams. They also advise citizens to be cautious of individuals who may be posing as disaster victims to steal from them.
The recovery of the stolen property is a positive development in the midst of the disaster, and the Phetkasem Foundation and local authorities are working together to ensure the safety and well-being of the victims.
