Singer Jill Scott is discussing her role in the 2007 Tyler Perry film “Why Did I Get Married?” ahead of the release of her sixth studio album, “To Whom This May Concern,” scheduled for release thru human Re Sources/The Orchard. In a recent interview, Scott detailed the emotional toll of authentically portraying her character, Sheila.
Scott appeared on Angie Martinez’s “IRL” podcast,sharing memories from the film set. She explained the challenges of embodying Sheila, a plus-size character, and the subsequent emotional work required to deliver a convincing performance.
“Why Did I Get Married?” featured an ensemble cast and grossed over $55 million at the box office, according to The Root. The film spawned a sequel in 2010.
Scott’s new album, ”To Whom This May Concern,” is set to be released on January 19, 2024, according to the Root.
