Jim Carrey Hints at ‘The Mask’ Sequel, But only Under one Condition
Could Stanley Ipkiss be making a comeback? Jim Carrey, known for his iconic comedic roles, recently hinted at the possibility of returning for a sequel to his 1994 hit “The Mask.”
While promoting his latest role as Dr. Robotnik in “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” Carrey was asked by ComicBook.com about the potential for a “Mask” follow-up. The comedian, famous for his energetic performances and rubber-faced expressions, responded with cautious optimism.
“Oh gosh, you know, it has to be the right idea,” Carrey said. “If somebody had the right idea, I guess. It’s not really about the money. I joke about the money. … But I never know. You can’t be definite about these things.”
This isn’t the first time Carrey has teased a return to beloved characters. he recently expressed interest in reprising his role as the Grinch, but only if it didn’t involve the grueling makeup process he endured for the 2000 film.
Carrey’s comments come after he seemingly announced his retirement from acting in April 2022. However, his return as Dr. Robotnik and his openness to revisiting other iconic roles suggest that retirement may not be on the immediate horizon.
“I said I’d like to retire, but I think I was talking more about power-resting,” Carrey clarified to ComicBook.com. “Because as soon as a good idea comes your way, or a group of people that you really enjoyed working with and stuff, things tend to change.”
“The Mask,” which introduced the world to cameron Diaz and became a box office sensation, grossed over $351 million worldwide, making it the fourth highest-grossing film of 1994. A sequel, however, never materialized.
