China’s Jinhuatang Qianhui Advances to Women’s Doubles Semifinals at Guangdong Open
China News Service, Guangzhou, October 25 (Reporter Wang Jian) – The 2024 Guangzhou International Women’s Tennis Open continued with the second round of women’s singles on the 24th. Chinese players Zhang Shuai and Yuan Yue were eliminated, missing the women’s singles quarterfinals. However, China’s Jinhuatang Qianhui, partnering with British player Appleton, reached the semi-finals in the doubles arena.
On the 25th, China’s Wang Xiyu advanced to the women’s singles semifinals, while Zhang Shuai and Siniakova reached the doubles final.
Zhang Shuai, a two-time tournament champion, faced American player Pera on the 24th. Despite being broken first in the fifth game, Zhang Shuai wasted three consecutive break points and lost the first set 2-6. In the second set, Zhang Shuai’s condition did not improve, losing another set 2-6 and missing the women’s singles quarterfinals.
No. 3 seed Yuan Yue faced Thailand qualifier Sawang Kai, who broke Yuan Yue’s serve three times in the first set and won 6-2. In the second set, Sawang Kai broke serve four times and won another victory 6-3, eliminating Yuan Yue and advancing to the quarterfinals.
Tang Qianhui was the only Chinese player to win on the 24th. Partnering with British player Appleton, they reversed the No. 3 seeds Aikli/Ninomiya Makoto 1-6, 6-3, 10-4 and successfully reached the women’s doubles semifinals. They will next face Piter/Stora, who defeated Feit/Ponchet 7-6(3), 6-2.
The women’s singles quarter-finals will also start on the 25th, with Wang Xiyu facing off against Italian Bronzetti.
