Leadership Skills and Humor Can Differentiate Candidates
Hiring managers often receive countless applications from qualified candidates and narrow their focus to specific skill sets.
Spring Lacy, Verizon’s vice president of talent acquisition, recalled a junior-level IT analyst role that received over 1,000 applications, wich she said is not unusual.
Lacy said recruiters narrowed the pool to about nine candidates. The hiring team aimed to assess leadership and soft skills, including the ability to consider diverse perspectives and critical thinking, which Verizon values at all levels.
Lacy said their interview questions assess whether candidates possess those leadership qualities.
